Abstract

455,298. Valve circuits for wireless reception. JOHNSTONE, D. M., and BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., 58, Victoria Street, Westminster. April 17, 1935, No. 11820. [Class 40 (v)] The oscillatory circuit of a super-regenerative receiver is damped by a shunt-connected pentode valve to which the quenching voltage is applied. The valve may also generate the quenching oscillation, the grid being coupled to the screen-grid circuit, Fig. 1 (not shown). The control grid may be coupled to the anode, Fig. 2, and the quenching oscillations be applied to the screen grid. The coupling 6 produces an effective quenching resistance of Ra/1+ gRa. A rejector circuit 2 may be provided between the valve and the circuit to be damped to eliminate the quenching frequency and its harmonics. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which the pentode 1 is the regenerative valve and a separate quench oscillator 17 reduces the anode voltage so as to carry the valve 1 to the low impedance portion of its characteristic during the quench periods. The Provisional Specification gives numerical data for a circuit using a regenerative pentode with the anode coupled to the grid by a condenser. Specification 439,103 is referred to.
