Abstract

454,996. Valve circuits for wireless reception &c. HASELTINE CORPORATION, 15, Exchange Place, Jersey City, New Jersey, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Wheeler, H. A.; 18, Melbourne Road, Great Neck, New York, U.S.A.) Feb. 27, 1936, No. 5945. Convention date, March 27, 1935. [Class 40 (v)] Undesired inter-action between the electrodes of a multi-grid valve, such as is used for modulation or frequency-conversion in a superheterodyne receiver, is prevented by an external coupling, e.g. a condenser, between the grids. The Figure shows the circuit of a frequency-converter valve of the kind described in Specification 436,940, in which the first two grids are back-coupled by inductive coupling 20, 23 and a capacity coupling 21, the third grid receives the signal input from a tuned circuit 13, 14 the fourth grid comprises a fixed-voltage screen, and the anode circuit 18 is coupled to the intermediate-frequency amplifier 27. Undesired inter - action is neutralized by a condenser 31 connected between the signal input grid and the oscillator grid. The condenser 31 neutralizes the effect of the coupling between the oscillator anode and the input grid due to the capacity between them and their mutual conductance. It also neutralizes the effect of the " space-charge coupling" in the valve. Damping or regeneration of the input circuit 13, 14 is thus prevented, and the local oscillator voltage is not allowed to reach the input grid.
