Abstract

454,514. Changing signs. ALEXANDER & SONS, Ltd., W., Brown Street, ALEXANDER, W., The Manor, and ALEXANDER, jun., W., Cleveleys, all in Camelon, Falkirk. April 5, 1935, No. 10565. [Class 3 (i)] A plurality of coplanar non-endless bands 13 are carried by pairs of coaxial rollers 12 mounted on two parallel shafts 1 to either one of which rotation can be imparted by a spindle 5 slidable to bring cross-pins 7 into engagement with worms 6 operating the shafts 1. Any one band can be selectively moved by shifting the shafts 1 axially to bring radial rings 20 thereon into engagement with interior projections 21 on one or another pair of rollers 12. The shafts 1 are shifted by a rotatable rod 11 carrying arms 10 furnished with rollers 9 engaging grooved wheels 8 fixed to the shafts 1, the opposite ends of the shafts comprising squared portions telescoping into the worm wheels 4. The wings 20 may be slidable along the shafts 1 under spring pressure to allow of correct adjustment of the shafts to move a required band even should the parts be so positioned that the wings abut momentarily against the ends of the projections 21, or alternatively the operating handle of the rod 11 may be connected thereto by a spring. The bands 13 are tensioned by springs 18 which act as brakes, pressing against washers 19 which bear on journal partitions 14.
