E., Guildhall Buildings, Navigation Street, Birmingham. March 29, 1935, No. 9785. [Class 103 (i)] The drums 4 of internally - expanding brakes are cooled by delivering on to the drum surfaces finely atomized sprays of cooling liquid, which is evaporated on the surfaces. Preferably, the spray is produced by a jet 1 of compressed air of the brake operating system entraining liquid from a tank 2 through a nozzle 3, so that the spray comes into action as the brake is operated. According to the Provisional Specification the cooling method may be applied to rotating bodies generally.
