Abstract

452,244. Railway - vehicle couplings. TORMA, S., 21, K÷bÓnyai ut, Budapest. Nov. 19, 1935, No. 32007. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1934. [Class 103 (v)] In an automatic central buffer coupling having two projections lying diagonally opposite one another and with buffing surfaces arranged vertically to the central draught axis, the projections are arranged symmetrically or nearly symmetrically with, and have surfaces arranged perpendicularly or nearly perpendicularly to, the line of draught. As shown the coupler head is provided with diagonally opposed projections 3, 4, Fig. 1, and with corresponding recesses 15, 16, the inner edges of the projections being bevelled to guide the opposing coupler both vertically and horizontally in coupling. In Fig. 3, tho projections and recesses are stepped, the cross-shaped part 43 carrying pipe connections &c. The head is provided with a hook 17, Figs. 7, 8, pivoted at 18 and having a tail 27 engaged by a depending rod 26. The nose of the hook is convex and is provided with a lug 21 which rests on the edge of the hole in the opposing coupler. A bent arm 28 connected to a pawl 29 for ejecting the opposing coupler hook engages under the tail 27 and may be retained in position by a spring 34. The uncoupling device comprises a sleeve e operated by a lever 23 connected to a manually operated chain 24. An arm on the sleeve is pivoted to the rod 26 and a lug 38 at the other end of the sleeve locks the hook in its uncoupled position. When the chain is pulled the hook 17 is raised out of the hole in the opposing coupler and the lug 38 tilts a member 36, Fig. 11b, resting by its point 37 on the opposing coupler until it clears the top of the member whereupon the member 36 returns to its original position but with the lug 38 on its top surface thereby locking the uncoupling device in the uncoupled position. When the coupling heads are drawn apart the member 36 descends and releases the lug 38. The coupling head is connected to a combined buffing and draw rod 41 by a bolt 42, which is supported in a spherical seating in the rod 41 and maintains a spherical seating on the head against a corresponding seating on the end of the rod 41, the head being maintained in horizontal position by a spring.
