Abstract

451,455. Handles. STILES, N. R., Malta Works, Station Road, Billingshurst, Sussex. May 30, 1935, No. 15769. [Class 61 (i)] A sectional vacuum cleaner &c. handle comprises intermediate sections A, B formed with tubular edges connected by an intermediate web and provided with projecting pins 5<a> at one end adapted to engage and be secured in the end of an adjacent section, a curved grip section 17 formed of curved strips and hollow grip parts surrounded by a rubber sleeve and a bail section 20 constructed of curved bars. The sections A, B each comprise a pair of metal strips bent as shown in Fig. 11 to form a tubular edge 1 and web parts 2 and welded together as shown in Fig. 10 ; one end of the section is fitted with an insertion made up of a pair of plates 4, Figs. 8 and 10, with hollowed edges 5 secured in the tubular portions of the section and projecting to form pins 5<a>. Screw holes 6, 7 are provided for securing the sections together by means of a screw 9 as shown in Fig. 3. The grip section, Fig. 14, is formed of two curved plates ribbed at 10<b> to enter the tubular edges of an adjacent section 16, half cylindrical handle shells 12, a stop ferrule 15 for a rubber &c. hand grip 17 and a retaining cap 18 secured by a screw 19. The bail section, Fig. 27, is formed of curved bars 20 with parallel portions 20<c> enclosing a strip 25 apertured at 25<a> to retain a stiffening strip 26, the whole secured by side members 28; the extremities 20<c> are adapted to engage over the end of an intermediate section to which they are secured by a screw through holes 20<d>. In the case of an electric cleaner the sections are provided with contact plugs and sockets and connecting wires.
