Description

July 24, 1928.
R. L. CLEARY SHAVING COMBINATION Filed Aug. 16, 1927 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROY LEE CLEARY, OIE KERLIN, ARKANSAS.
SHAVING COMBINATION.
Application filed August 16, 1927. Serial No. 213,370.
The present invention relates to an improved combination device for use by barber's and others in the art of shaving.
Briefly, the invention has reference to a shaving brush, a razor, and a quick detachable connection between the brush and razor,
whereby the brush may be mounted on the customary handle of the razor to facilitate shaving.
The particular details of construction, will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevational and sectional view of the combination device showing one embodiment of the razor, of the safety type.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a razor of the straight type.
Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 33 of Fig. 1. I
Fig. 1 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view, showing a slightly modified form of the invention.
In Figs. 1 and 3, I have shown a safety razor designated by the reference character 5, while in Figs. 2 and 4 I have shown a straight razor generally designated by the reference character 6. The safety razor 5 embodies the customary detachable handle 7 of cylindrical form.
The straight razor 6 embodies the customary sheath or shield type of handle 8 into which the blade 9 is foldable. Associated with the razor handle in either instance, is an attachment generally designated by the reference character 9. The attachment comprises a bristle brush 10, a head 11, and a resilient clamping device 12. The device 12 comprises a plurality of circumferentially spaced resilient main fingers 13 carrying auxiliary fingers 14c.
The upper ends of the fingers 13 are flared outwardly to facilitate attachment while the free end portions of the smaller fingers 14; are directed outwardly to insure maintenance of grip. a
It will be seen that in both forms of the invention we have a separable brush attachment, capable of being readily applied to the handle of a razor, so that the razor handle has a double function forming. a handle for a shaving brush and a manipulating handle for the razor.
It is thought that this combination of devices provides a composite device, which is more easily handled in less time and with less labor. It is believed that a device of this type is particularly advantageous and efii cient for use by barber's and in the home.
The only distinction between the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, is that the supple mental fingers 14 are omitted, for simplicity.
It is thought that by considering the description inconnection with the drawings, a clear understanding of the invention will be had. Therefore, a more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.
1. In a shaving appliance of the class described, in combination, a razor including a handle, a shaving brush including a bristle backing, a head, said head having a depression foi' reception of said handle, and a clamping means carried by said head and detachably connected with said handle.
2. In a structure of the class described, in combination, a razor including a handle, a bristle brush, a head carried thereby, said head having a depression for reception of said handle, and a multiplicity of spring clamping fingers carried by said head, said fingers being arranged in eircumferentially spaced relation, and disposed in sets of two, there being main outer fingers and supplemental inner fingers carried by the outer fingers.
3. As a new product of manufacture, an attachment for a razor handle comprising a bristle brush having a depression for reception at the'end of the razor handle, and a multiplicity of circumferentially spaced pairs of fingers, each pair embodying a main outer finger having a flared free extremity, and an inner finger having a flared extremity.
