UNiTEB STATES PATENT oFFlcE.
HENRY H. OLSON AND JENNIE STEVENS, 0F BEN LOMOND, CALIFORNIA.
FALSE-TOOTH CLEANER.
Application filed August 18, 1923. Serial No. 658,139.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HENRY H. OLSON and JENNIE E. STEVENS, citizens of the United States, residents of Ben Lomond, in the county of Santa Cruz and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a False-Tooth Cleaner, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in a device for cleaning false teeth and plates wherein cleaning elements of various characters for cleansing different portions of A further object is to provide an improved device of simple and compact construction which will combine, as a single unit, cleaning elements adapted for use upon all portions of a set of false teeth.
Our invention consists of the novel features of structure and arrangement shown in the drawings forming a part of the present specifications wherein like characters of reference are used to designate similar parts throughout said specification and drawings and in which,
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the device, one
of the cleaning elements being fully extend-- ed and the other partially extended.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device as shown in Fig. 1, the extended cleaning element being shown in connection with a set of false teeth. 7
Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 is used to designate in general a handle upon opposite sides of which are secured bristles 2 and 3. The bristles 2 are preferably short and stiff while the bristles 3, extending outwardly in an opposite direction are made relatively long and flexible for a purpose hereinafter more fully explained.
The opposite end of the handle 1 is recessed as at 4: and 5 to receive a. pair of cleaning elements 6 and 7 pivotally mounted upon said end of the handle and adapted to be folded into a normal inoperative position within the recesses, said elements being adapted to be independently moved to outwardly extending operative position.
The cleaning element 6 is provided with a blunt scoop shaped end 8 adapted to be inserted into the concavities of a false tooth plate 9 for cleaning the same and for removing any foreign substance which may gather within said concavities. The cleaning ele ment 7 consists of a sharpened blade: having a fine sharp point adapted to be inserted between teeth 1.0 carried upon the plate 9 for cleaning and removing foreign substance from between the teeth. The point is also useful for cleaning small indentations in the teeth and plate which are not readily reached by the bristles.
The short stifi' bristles 2 are particularly useful in cleaning the outer surface of the teeth and platewhile the longer and more flexible bristles are particularly adapted for cleaning the inner surface of theteeth and plate, the bristles being more readily manipulated in and about the more inaccessible surface to obtain an effective cleaning without danger of roughening the surfaces. The elements 6 and 7 are utilized as above described for cleaning portions of the teeth and plate which are not readily reached by means of the bristles.
From the above description it will at once be seen that we have provided an improved device wherein provision has been made for cleaning all portions of a set of false teeth by means of a single instrument which is normally only slightly different in size and appearance from the tooth brush but which affords numerous advantages in the effectiveness and ease with which false teeth may be cleaned.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A false tooth cleaner comprising a handle; a. plurality of bristles secured upon opposite sides of the handle adjacent one end thereof, the bristles upon one side being short and stiff and the bristles upon the op posi te side being relatively long and flexible for cleaning the outer and inner sides respectively of a plate of false teeth; a cleaning element pivotally mounted upon the oposite end of the handle, said element having a blunt scoop shaped end adapted to clean the concavities of the plate; and a and beingindependently movable to out- Sharp pointed cleaning blade pivot-ally Wai'dly extending operative positions. mounted adjacent the cleaning element for In Witness whereof we hereunto set our 10 cleaning between the teeth of the plate, the signatures. cleaning element and blade being normally folded into inoperative position Within recesses formed Within the end of the handle HENRY H. OLSON. JENNIE E. STEVENS.
