Abstract
248,947. Gold, F. S. April 15, 1925. Rods and rod fittings. - The rod is provided with a ferrule 5, Fig. 1, having a socket 6 to receive one of the usual tangs 4 of the reel 3, and a sleeve 7 which slides over the other tang and is retained in position by an inwardly projecting pin 10 engaging a slot 9 in the rod and secured to an internal spring 11. Ribs 8 are provided on the part 2 of the rod to position the tangs. The outer end of the rod is formed as a hand grip. In a modification, Figs. 2i and 4, the portion 2 of the rod is hollow and is cut away on the outside to form a flattened surface 12 which co-operates with the ferrule 5a and sleeve 7b to form sockets. The ferrule 5<a> is cut awav to form shoulders 8<a> which engage the sides of the tang. The spring 11<a> is housed within the rod, one end being fixed by a pin 13 to the ferrule 5<a> and the other to a pin 10<a> on the sleeve 7b working in a slot 9<a> in the rod. A transverse slot 15 enables the sleeve to be retained in position. The ferrule 5<a> and the sleeve 7<b> are formed as hand-grips. In another modification a transverse slot is provided at the upper end of the slot 9<a> to retain the pin 10<a> in the closed position of the sleeve 7<b>, the spring preferably having a rotary bias to ensure locking.
