[Class 134] In folding umbrellas, the telescoping stick parts 1, 2 are maintained in the extended position and are prevented from coming apart when being extended by spring latches 18, 19 respectively which are independent of each other. The latch 19 is manually operated as by a rod 15' which is pushed inwardly and has a cranked end 14' engaging an inclined slot 13<SP>1</SP> in the latch 19. In operative position the square shoulders of the latches engage the end of the stick member 1 and the end of a slot 27 therein, the latches being formed integrally with a spring strip 22 housed inside the stick member 2. The surfaces of the latches are bevelled so as to be pressed inwards by the outward and inward movement of the member 1. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a construction in which a single latch member with a bevelled nose and long and short shoulders at the sides thereof are used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
