[Class 134] An umbrella has telescopic rib and stick members and one of the stick members is polygonal in cross-section and the other stick member has a polygonal crosssection at least at the end engaging the other member, and the spring catch, adapted to block the members in the extended position, engages in a slit in a corner of the outer member. Stick members 1, 2 are of polygonal and circular cross-section respectively and the end 16 is pressed to fit, more especially at the edges, into the member 1. Stretchers 7 are pivoted to the outer rib parts 6, and supplementary stretchers 12 are pivoted to the stretchers 7 and to an auxiliary runner 15. The corners of the polygonal members may be rounded. Springs 10, 11 retain the runner 9 in its respective positions. The inner end of the member 1 is pressed to fit the circular member 2 and is provided at the corners with inwardly projecting lugs forming stops. The members are secured in their extended positions by a member 3 biassed by a spring 32 and adapted to engage in slots arranged in the corners of the members. The member 3 may be arranged within or below the pressed-out part 16.
