Abstract

499,551. Umbrellas. ROSENBERG, F., EVANS, W. S., and LUTZ, J. March 22, 1938, No. 8781. Convention date, March 29, 1937. [Class 134] The ribs and stretchers are constructed and arranged to permit the frame to be partially or wholly reversed, or to be reversed on one side independently of the other side, and to be returned to its normal position. Each rib 3, Fig. 4, has a lug 5 to which is pivoted a link 8. The stretcher 11 is pivoted to the link so that reversibility of the umbrella is facilitated. A spring 7 normally maintains the link 8 against the rib. In another form, the stretcher 24, Fig. 5, is pivoted to a lug 22 slidable on the rib 20 between stops 26, 27.
