Abstract
1,087,538. Telescopic/folding umbrella. BREMSHEY & CO. Sept. 29, 1966 [Oct. 2, 1965], No. 43529/66. Heading A4P. An umbrella having telescopic and folding parts comprises a fabric cover (26), a telescopic shaft having three sections 3, 4 and 5, a number of three-part ribs in which the middle parts 8 are capable of telescoping into the inner parts 7, a main 13 and an auxiliary slider 15 which are both slidable on the shaft, main struts 12 each pivoted to the mains slider and to the inner end of the corresponding middle rib part 8, and auxiliary struts 16 each pivoted to the auxiliary slider and to the corresponding main strut, each outer rib part 17 being pivoted at 18 to the corresponding middle rib part 8 in such a way that it is capable of swinging in the plane containing the corresponding rib and the umbrella shaft, the movement being limited towards the shaft when fully extended by a stop (19). The fabric cover (26) is attached to the crown 2 of the umbrella, to the outer ends (30) of the outer rib parts 17, to the inner ends of the middle rib parts and to the pivot joints 18. The length of the rib parts is such that when the umbrella is telescoped, the outer ends (30) of the outer rib parts reach no further than the "mushroom-shaped" fold (33) formed by the fabric between the crown 2 and the inner ends of the middle rib parts.
