Abstract
1328694 Self-opening umbrellas N KIDA & K SAITO 19 Aug 1970 [19 Aug 1969 14 Nov 1969] 35565/70 Heading A4P A self-opening telescopic umbrella has a strut 34, attached to a main slider 35 and held substantially at right angles to the shaft when in the open position a secondary strut 33 pivoted to the strut 34 at A and supported by a crown 32 and a rib 36 slidably pivoted to the strut 34 at B and with its inner end pivotally connected at C to the secondary strut 33 at D by a tie 37, the members 33, 34, 36 and 37 thus forming an irregular quadrilateral. The self-opening is effected by a spring 39 between the main slider 35 and an auxiliary slider 38 which carries auxiliary struts 40 which are pivoted to the struts 34. The telescopic shaft 31 is extended by an internal spring 43 and is held extended by projections held out by a spring 42. The umbrella is held folded by an engaging means 41 which engages the upper part 31a of shaft 31 and the auxiliary slider 38. At least one tension. Spring 45 aids the comencement of opening by preventing members 33 and 34 forming a dead spot by linearly aligning. A spring 44 acts as a shock absorber when opening. Any one or more pivots at the corners of the quadrilateral may be slidable alternatively to the one shown, or any one or more sides of the quadrilateral may be extensible provided their travel is limited. The lower part of the stick may be inserted into the upper part as shown or alternatively the upper part may be inserted into the lower part in which case the engaging means 41 is provided in the upper part. The stick may also be made in three or more sections.
