Abstract

737,046. Telescopic umbrellas. ROSENKAIMER & CIE, GES. July 16, 1953 [July 18, 1952], No. 19780/53. Class 134. A self-opening telescopic umbrella of the type having a spring system arranged between the main and auxiliary slide members and in which the upper stick section telescopes into the lower section is characterized in that the crown fixed to the upper section has a larger internal diameter than the external diameter of said upper section, thus providing an annular recess into which the lower stick section can slide when the stick sections are telescoped. The umbrella shown comprises telescopic stick sections 1 and 2 held in the extended position by ball latches 11. The lower rib sections 4 of the telescopic rib sections 3 and 4 are connected by main struts 9 to an auxiliary sleeve 8 sliding under the control of a spring 7 on the main slide 6 to which the auxiliary struts 10 are connected. The upper rib sections 3 are attached to a crown 5 which is of larger internal diameter than the upper stick section 1 and is spread therefrom by a sleeve 13, connection of the parts being effected by a pin 15 which is preferably riveted at both ends. A cap 14 is screwed to the crown 5. In an alternative arrangement the crown 5 is provided with an integral inwardly projecting collar to replace the . sleeve 13, the crown being advantageously made by injection moulding.
