1354922 Telescopic umbrellas W BAUERMANN & SOHNE GmbH 16 July 1971 [17 July 1970] 33590/71 Heading A4P An umbrella comprises a telescopic stick 10, 11, a crown 13, struts 19, two-part spokes each consisting of a part 15 pivoted to the crown and a part 17 telescoping into part 15 and connected at an inner end by a sleeve 18 sliding on part 15 to a strut 19, a stop being provided on at least one outer spoke portion to limit telescoping of the spoke parts to ensure that the sleeves 18 are spaced from the crown 13 when the umbrella is telescoped. An abutment ring 14 for a slider 20 may be provided, sleeves 18 also being spaced from the ring 14 when the umbrella is telescoped. The stop may be a sleeve 24 on a part 17 abutting against a guide sleeve 16 on the corresponding part 15. The sleeve 24 may cover the entire length of the part 17 that does not telescope into part 15 and may be an extension of a tip of the part 17. A bend in, or enlargement on, the part 17 may be used instead of the sleeve 24. More than one spoke may be provided with a stop. The umbrella may be of rectangular section when collapsed. A spring may be provided between the slider 20 and an auxiliary slider 21 for automatically opening the umbrella.
