Abstract
1,129,591. Telescopic umbrella. Y. SHIMIZU and K. HASHIMOTO. 25 Jan., 1966 [18 March, 1965], No. 3359/66. Heading A4P. A folding umbrella comprises a telescopic shaft consisting of inner (1), intermediate (2) and outer (3) sections with a notch (4) at the free end of the inner section; a number of ribs each of which consists of a base sections (8) hinged at one end to the notch, an intermediate section (9) telescopically slidable into the base section, and an end section (12) pivotally connected to the intermediate section; a runner (6) which slides along the shaft; stretchers (14), each of which corresponds to one rib and has one end pivotally connected to the runner and the other end pivotally connected to the intermediate section of the rib; and a catch (7) which engages the runner retaining the umbrella in an open position. Preferably a joint member (11) is secured by means of a cylindrical sleeve (10) to the inner end of the intermediate rib section (9), this having means adapted to engage with the outer end of the inner rib section (8) to hold the intermediate section (9) in its fully extended position. The stretcher (14) is preferably connected to the rib by this same joint member, A stay (16) is preferably pivotally connected to a point on the stretcher, the other end of the stay being pivotally connected to a second runner (5) located between the main runner (6) and the notch.
