A collapsible tent or like framework comprises a central hub 3, adapted to be the apex of the structure, a plurality of flexible stays 1 pivotally attached to the hub 3 at spaced, radial positions to be movable outwardly from a closed position parallel .to the hub axis to an open position where they form the general shape of the structure, and.a member, e.g. a disc 8, coaxial with the hub and adapted to engage the stays 1 and urge them outwardly. A wire 6 located in a peripheral groove 4 in the hub 3 and passing through eyes in the ends of the stays 1 attaches them to the hub 3. The disc 8 is pivotally attached to the bottom of a screw 7 having a nut 13 with a handle 14, a sleeve 15 locking in the disc in its operative position as shown. The stays 1 may be steel rod, metal tube, or cane and may be straight or hinged intermediate their length, or may be in two telescopic sections, locking sleeves 18 being provided in the last two cases. When the cover 11 is clipped or stitched to the stays 1 and attached at the top to a member 10, the tent is erected in the following manner. The stays 1 are unfolded, locked, moved outwardly, their lower ends pushed into the ground, and a rod 34 inserted, Fig. 2. The disc 8 is raised until notches 9 therein engage the stays 1, the sleeve 15 moved to lock the disc 8, and the handle 14 operated to pull up the disc 8 and tension the cover 11. Several modifications are described. The disc 8 may be carried on the bottom of a shaft having at its top a handle with a cam surface adapted to bear on a collar which is on the shaft and rests on the hub 3, movement of the handle raising the disc. Again, the disc may be loosely carried on a screw which threads in the hub, or the screw may pass freely through the hub and thread on to the disc.
