483,711. Umbrellas. WUSTER, jun., H. Oct. 23, 1936, No. 28816. Convention date, Sept. 22. [Class 134] A telescopic umbrella has stretchers 9 pivoted to ends of the rib parts 8 and to an element 18 which is mounted on the runner 12 and houses one end of a compression spring 17 adapted to bear against an auxiliary runner 21 secured by pivoted stays 19 to the stretchers 9 so that when the main runner is released, e.g. by operating catch 5, the spring will cause the ribs to open and to maintain their extended condition. The channelled rib parts 7 are adapted to house the rib parts 8 and the length of the stays 19 may be one quarter or one sixth of that of the stretchers 9.
