Abstract
489,079. Fishing-rods. O'BRIEN, JUN., F. M. Oct. 27, 1937, No. 29397. Convention date, Feb. 9. [Class 48] A fishing-rod is secured to a tubular reelseat by a tubular ferrule fixed upon the rod end and clamped within the reel-seat. The ferrule 22 is slit at 27 to form fingers 28 which grip over the end of the rod 21 and carries a nut 25 between a rib 24 and a ring 22a brazed to the ferrule. The rib 24 seats against the end of the seat 10 and the ferrule engages a shoulder 23 within the seat, the nut 25 engaging threads on the outer end of the seat. The seat has a welded ring 13 with tapered cavity 14 for one end of the reel plate, the other end engaging a ring 19 sliding on the seat 10 and forced up by a nut 18 engaging threads 17 on the reel-seat. The ferrule is aligned by a projection on the rib 24 engaging a corresponding recess in the end of the reel-seat. The inner end of the seat receives a butt grip 12 while the fingers 28 of the ferrule receive a fore-handle 29. Specification 489,078 is referred to.
