Abstract

887,476. Fishing rod fittings. CHAPMAN, R. C. J., and CHAPMAN, C. J. May 9, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959], No. 7020/59. Class 48. The base N of a fishing reel is clamped to the rod by a fixed ring L and by a ring M attached to the outer end of a tubular member D which slides in the hollow butt A of the rod, a compression spring H forcing the tubular member D inwardly. The spring acts between the inner end of the tubular member D and the head of a screw G disposed within the tubular member and extending through a hole in the inner end thereof to screw into a diaphragm B fixed inside the butt. The outer end of the tubular member is closed by a removable plug E. In a modification bayonet slots in the tubular member D engage a transverse pin on the butt to hold the tubular member D in withdrawn position whilst the reel base is being positioned on the rod.
