[Class 53] [See also Groups XXXVIII and XI] An electrically illuminated buoy is provided with a battery energized by the sea water. As shown in Fig. 3 the battery comprises a zinc electrode 20 enclosing a carbon electrode 21 surrounded by manganese dioxide or copper oxide mixed with carbon and enclosed in a sack. The lamp holder consists as shown in Fig. 5 of a wire in contact with the electrode 20 and formed with convolutions 32. The battery is supported in the tubular portion 13 of the buoy. Figs. 10 and 12 show a modification in which the zinc electrode 20 is carried by a pole 38 supported by the float 10. The carbon electrode 21 and depolarizer 31 enclosed in a sack 30 are also carried by the pole 38 below the float. The electrodes are connected by wires 39 to the lamp 33.
