Abstract
450,971. Thermionic cathodes. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and KNIGHT, H. DE B., 108, Eastlands Road, Rugby. Jan. 25, 1935, No. 2509. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode of the directly or indirectly heated type and particularly for use in gas or vapour filled discharge devices consists of gauze sheets welded on to the sides of plates, the gauze receiving the emissive material such as a mixture of barium and strontium carbonates, which is subsequently reduced. As shown a number of plates 3 are welded together to form a cylinder with radial vanes and central tube 2, which receives the heater 1 ; the gauze sheets are welded to some or all sides of the plates 3. Heat shields 4, 5 surround the cathode. According to the Provisional Specification the cathode may be made of rolled gauze impregnated with emissive material.
