Abstract
An adhesive for joining metal foil to paper consists of a known aqueous adhesive, e.g. paste, casein, glue, dextrin, gum arabic, or rubber latex together with an aqueous dispersion of an aliphatic polyvinyl compound, e.g. a polyvinyl or polyacrylic acid ester. The components may be mixed before, during, or after the preparation of the polymeric dispersion. The adhesive may be made neutral by the addition of acid or alkali. Monomeric ethyl acrylate and water are added dropwise to an aqueous solution of gum arabic and glycerine containing a small proportion of an emulsifier such as sodium or potasium oleate while stirring at 60 DEG C., the stirring being continued until polymerisation and dispersion is complete. Alternatively, an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl acetate is added to an aqueous dispersion of rubber latex and casein.ALSO:An adhesive for joining metal foil to paper consists of a known aqueous adhesive, e.g. paste, casein, glue, dextrin, gum arabic, or rubber latex together with polymerized butadiene. The components may be mixed before, during, or after the preparation of the polymeric dispersion, and the adhesive may be made neutral by addition of acid or alkali.
