Abstract

The heat- and light-stability of polymerizates comprising polyvinyl chloride is increased by incorporating therein a substance capable of forming hybrid ions, for instance (1) aliphatic a -aminocarboxylic acids, e.g. glycine, leucine, alanine, asparaginic acid; (2) natural gluestuffs, e.g. glue, gelatine; (3) aromatic aminocarboxylic acids, e.g. o- and p-aminobenzoic acids; (4) aromatic aminosulphonic acids, e.g. sulphanilic acid. In examples: (1) and (5) glycine or sulphanilic acid is added to an interpolymer of vinyl chloride and methyl acrylate; (2) leucine is added to a mixture of crystal violet and an interpolymer of vinyl chloride and butyl acrylate; (3) gelatine is added to a mixture of titanium white and an interpolymer of vinyl chloride, methyl acrylate, and butyl or octodecyl acrylate; (4) gelatine is added to a mixture of lithopone and polyvinyl chloride. These compositions may be used in making luminous advertising signs. According to the Provisional Specification any substance of the vinyl group may be used in place of vinyl chloride.
