Abstract

448,819. Concealed hinges. ETZEL, P., 179, Timon Street, Buffalo, New York, U.S.A. Aug. 6, 1935, No. 22218. [Class 65 (ii)] A hinge for a vehicle door comprises a member 19, fixed to the door edge and carrying an arm 15 projecting into a recess in the body pillar A, and a pair of members fixed to the body pillar, each having a plate portion 11 let into the face of the pillar and a lug 12 projecting into the recess in the pillar and fitting against the upper or lower face of the recess, the members being connected by a pin 13 near the outside surface of the body. The arm 15 is detachable from the member 19 to allow of easy removal of the door, the inner end 17 of the arm being forked and fitting over a lug 21, on the part 19, to which it is secured by a screw. The edge of the door is recessed to clear the corner of the body. The hinge is concealed by cover plates 23, 27 on the body and door, meeting on a line offset from the joint between the body and door.
