[Class 66 (ii)] A gooseneck member 22 has a ball head 24 located in a part-spherical socket 30 and a shank 23 extending through a horizontal slot 32 which is wide enough to permit of angular adjustment in the vertical plane of the member 22. The socket member 21 is formed in two parts 29, 35 having co-operating recesses to form the socket 30, and the block 40 of hardened steel is made separate from the part 35. In a modification, Fig. 7, part of the socket member 29a is formed integral with the pillar 60 of the vehicle body and flanges 61 outlining the slot 32a give additional rigidity to the pillar. The portion 40a of the socket member fits loosely in the recess 42a so that tightening up of the attaching bolts causes the ball 24 to be held resiliently in the socket. In a further modification, the socket member 21 is formed from two L-shaped plates pressed from sheet metal, and the gooseneck member 22 is a rod bent at right-angles. The end 25 of the shank 23 may be attached to the door 20 by studs 27 as shown, Fig. 2, or may be welded or otherwise attached to a reinforcing plate attached to the inner side of the door pillar. The hinge may be lubricated by the use of passages 46, 47 and may have an annular wick placed in a recess around the ball head 24 to hold the lubricant.
