Abstract
448,148. Stays. FISH, C. J., 45, Hatton Park Road, and FISH, K. R. G., 178, Northampton Road, both in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. May 27, 1935, No. 15418. [Class 65 (i)] In a window or like stay of the kind comprising a stay-bar 8 pivoted at one end to a shoe 6 arranged to slide wholly or partly within an inverted channel guide bar 1, with means to clamp the members together in various positions, the shoe is provided with a screwed stem 7 extending downwardly from its underside and has associated therewith a handle 10, or a nut, and a part or member 9 which surrounds the stem 7 and is adapted to clamp or hold the shoe in any position in the guidebar 1 when the handle 10 or nut is turned. In the form shown, the member 9 is threaded on the stem 7 and fixed non-rotatably in the handle 10, but it may form part of the handle ; the end of the stay-bar 8 is rotatable on the member 9 and rests on a collar thereon, the clamping being effected between the end of the stay 8 and the shoe 6, which engage between them inturned flanges of the channel bar 1. In a modification, the member 9 may be replaced by a spring. The stem 7 may be fixed in the member 9 and screw into the shoe 6. Various methods of fixing the handle 10 are described; means may be provided to limit movement of the handle. The bar 1 may be of various sections, and the shoe 6 may be formed in two parts, one loose on the stem 7, to adapt itself more easily to the form of the guide. According to the Provisional Specification, the clamping may be effected by cam surfaces on the boss of the handle 10.
