[Class 7 (vi)] In multi-cylinder engines having pairs of inlet valves 5 and exhaust valves 6 to each of several cylinders arranged in a line, the valves are actuated by corresponding pairs of levers mounted on separate shafts extending transversely of the engine. The Figure shows two inlet valves 5 actuated by arms 15 on a cross-shaft 11, which carries a further arm 21 actuated by a push rod 31. Similarly, two exhaust valves 6 are actuated by arms 16 on a second cross-shaft 12 with a further arm 22 and push rod 32. The two shafts 11, 12 of adjacent cylinders are mounted in common bearings 13, 14. The arms 21 is curved over the shaft 12, while the arm 22 is clear of the end of the shaft 11.
