[Class 78 (iii)] A vehicle-lift for use in garages is designed to promote accessibility to the vehicle from the sides and underneath. A central longitudinal girder 1, for example, an I-beam, which is adapted to be raised by a hydraulic ram 2 is fitted with two axle supports and with one or two members for raising the body relatively to the chassis. The bow-shaped rear axle support 3, Figs. 1 and 3, may be fixed to or slidably mounted on the beam, but the front support is always slidably mounted and comprises two members 4, 5, Fig. 5, having hooks to engage the top flange of the I-beam and flanges 6 which are clamped by the load pressure against the lower flange of the beam. Preferably, the member 5 has one hook only, which is straddled by a pair of hooks on a bifurcated arm of the other member 4. For raising the body of the vehicle, two screwed shafts 13, Fig. 4, engaging nuts in the brackets 12, are rotated by hand to raise parts 15 on the body. The brackets 12 are carried by one or a pair of cross girders 10 which rest on the I-beam 1. A frame 8 slidably mounted on the beam 1 carries lateral projections which pass over and engage the girders 10 so that by operating the clamping screw 11 the whole apparatus is rigidly fixed to the beam 1. Two such body-lifting appliances may be used where necessary. The central beam 1 may be composed of two or more separate girders placed in juxtaposition.
