Abstract
490,555. Lifting - jacks attached to vehicles. MANNING, M. J. March 24, 1937, No. 8724. Convention date, May 25, 1936. [Class 79 (iii)] A central screw, hydraulic, or other jack 9, upon which a vehicle may be lifted and turned, is carried by a transverse beam 1 attached to the chassis longitudinals 3, the weight being taken, when the vehicle is raised, through a yoke 4 bolted to the upper surface of the beam. The jack lifting pillar 12, passing through an opening in the beam and with its reduced end 13 engaging an opening in the yoke so that the yoke bears on the shoulder 18, is clamped in position by a U-bolt 15 with a plate or washer 16 tightened against the side of the beam and yoke by nuts 17. The beam may be flat or channelled and is extended at one end to the outer edge of the running board where it is bent downwards or carries a bracket 7 recessed to support, in known manner, the outer end of the jack operating rod or shaft 8. The jack may carry a base 10 mounted on ball bearings on which, when on the ground, the vehicle together with the jack may be rotated.
