511,670. Jacking apparatus on vehicles. MANNING, M. J. Dec. 13, 1938, No. 36330. Convention date, Feb. 16. [Class 79 (iii)] A vehicle jacking- attachment comprises a transverse tubular member 1 mounted in brackets 2, attached to the chassis frame longitudinals 3, and adapted to be rocked by means of a hand-lever 15 to bring one or more hydraulic jacks 5 secured thereon into or out of the vertical position for use. The jack, which is provided with a ball-socketed ground plate 33, is secured to the tubular member 1 by clamping bands 8, 9 tightened by nuts 20 on the arms of a U-bolt 16 straddling the member 1, a serrated seating plate 7 being interposed. The U-bolt and seating plate may be secured by a pin 19. Fluid is supplied to the jack by a pipe 12 leading through the tubular member to an external coupling joint 11. The hand-lever 15 may extend through the floor or be arranged externally of the body. The jack may be held in its operative position by engagement of a nipple. 30 thereon with a socket in a grooved plate 24 attached to the propeller shaft casing or other vehicle part With a simple jack located under the centre of gravity, the vehicle, when lifted, may be turned thereon as a pivot.
