Abstract
657,466. Vehicle suspensions. AKTIESELSKAPET STROMMENS VAERKSTED. Feb. 24, 1949, No. 5043. Convention date, July 10, 1948. [Class 108(ii)] The axle 4 is carried by arm 3, pivoted on a transverse axis 16 and is sprung by a laminated spring 6 having one end anchored to the vehicle frame, its middle bearing against the frame at 7 and its other end having sliding or rolling contact with the axle mounting at 9, the arrangement being such that a line drawn between the ends of the spring and a line drawn between the axis 16 and the point of contact of spring and axle-mounting enclose between them an obtuse angle the apex of which is directed downwards. This arrangement ensures that with increasing load the spring is deflected and the spring resistance increased. The anchorage for the end of the spring comprises a T-shaped bolt 10 whose upper end has a knife-edge bearing 11 on brackets 12 secured to the frame, and whose lower end has a knife-edge bearing 14 on the under side of the spring adjustably positioned and secured by lock-nuts 15.
