Abstract
499,801. Endless - track vehicles. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-. (Marmon-Herrington Co., Inc.) July 30, 1937, No. 21164. [Class 79 (i)] The lower run of each track 14 of an endless-track vehicle is engaged by four load-carrying wheels 22, the outer two being independently sprung in relation to the vehicle body, and the spring suspension of the inner two being such that upward displacement of one causes downward pressure on the other. Each wheel is mounted at the apex of a bell-crank 35. The arms 35<11> of the bell-cranks supporting the two front and two rear wheels are pivoted to common brackets 43, 43<1> on the vehicle body. The other arms 35<1> of the bell-cranks supporting the two outer wheels are secured to the ends of a long leaf-spring 47 clamped in brackets 46 secured to the body, and symmetrically disposed about its central transverse plane. The other arms 35<1> of the bell-cranks supporting the two inner wheels are connected by shackles 45<1> to the ends of a short leaf-spring 50 centrally pivoted at 49 to the body. The track also passes round a driving sprocket 12 and a takeup sprocket 13. The latter is adjustable to tension the track in the manner described in Specification 488,247.
