492,342. Vehicle spring-suspensions. BISHOP, F. C. N., and WHITEHEAD, R. M. March 17, 1937, No. 7777. [Class 108 (ii)] The frame 1 of a vehicle is supported at four ,points, two points, 7, being pivots at the middle of transverse springs 6 and lying in the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, and the other two points 10 being pivots lying on a transverse line and forming part of a differential device permitting the axles to rock, about a longitudinal axis, in opposite directions but not in the same direction. The wheels are carried by triangular members 3 whose bases 4 form the axles and to which the springs 6 are shackled at 8. The pivots 7 support the whole or the greater part of the weight. The inner ends of the members 3 are connected by a spring ring 9 which can swing about the pivots 10 on the frame 1. By resisting rocking of the members 3 in the same direction, tendency of the vehicle to roll when cornering is reduced and undue transference of load from one wheel to another is avoided. In' a modification, the triangular members 3 are replaced by members of T-formation ; and the ring 9 may be replaced by leaf springs which terminate the wheel-bearing members and are inter-connected by cross-bars pivoted to the frame on a transverse line. One of the springs 6 may be pivoted to the axle and shackled to the frame.
