447,079. Mounting vehicle springs. VAUXHALL MOTORS, Ltd., Luton, Bedfordshire. Dec. 7, 1934, No. 35192. Convention date, Jan. 15. [Class 108 (iii)] In an independent wheel suspension for motor &c. vehicles, particularly of the kind in which a helical spring contained in or housing acts upon a rocking lever carrying the wheel, the housing is formed of a pressed metal portion A consisting of two halves welded along a median line 8, together with a cast metal portion B, which is welded to the portion A along an edge 1 and supports the housing on the chassis. At one end the casting B is formed with an internally threaded annulus 2 adapted to receive a cover 4 for the housing, and at its other end with eyes 6 to receive the hinge-pins, while an additional eye 7 serves for connecting the steering-rod thereto. Bearing bushes 9 for the shaft of the lever are welded to the portion A and are reinforced by gussets 10 inserted to the rear thereof, while a pin 13 may also be welded to the portion A for attachment of a second wheel-carrying lever when such is employed.
