Abstract

446,854. Supplying air to liquid and pulverulent fuel furnaces. TODD OIL BURNERS, Ltd., 130, Leadenhall Street, London. March 13, 1935, No. 7803. Convention date, July 18, 1934. [Class 51 (i)] In an air-supply device for oil or pulverized coal burners of the kind comprising a cylindrical casing surrounding the burner and provided with hinged inwardly opening overlapping air admission doors, the doors have vanes with curved scoop-shaped surfaces which direct the streams into a centrally and rearwardly spiral flow. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the doors 13 are hinged upon bolts 7 and have vanes 15, which may be adjustably mounted on the doors, and projecting lugs 22 with slots 23 having offset portions 24. The doors are actuated by a lever 25 provided with a slot 27 engaging with a pin 28 mounted on a rotatable ring 18 supported on flanged rollers 19 and carrying pins 21 which move in concentric slots 17 in the front plate 8 and also in the slots 23 of the lugs 22. The offset portions 24 of the slots prevent the doors from opening under external pressure, but with the doors open and the pins 21 located in the rearward portions of the slots the doors are free to close by internal pressure due to explosion. An adjustable stop is provided on the ring 18 to limit the extent to which the doors may be opened.
