Abstract
446,701. Tobacco-feeding apparatus. MOLINS, H. B., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, and ISAACS, M. H., 7, Thavies Inn, Holborn Circus, both in London, (Representatives of MOLINS, W. E.), and NICHOLS, S. A., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. March 8, 1935, No. 7298. [Class 130] In tobacco-feeding apparatus in which short tobacco falling between a carded feeding element 6 and a carded combing element 7 in a hopper is collected on a conveyer band 14, means are provided to maintain the short tobacco substantially undisturbed on the conveyer until it is delivered on to a support which conveys it to a position for deflection into the hopper or on to a travelling surface. The support is formed by the horizontal surface of an L-shaped band 17 and the short tobacco is gripped between portions 14A, 17A of the bands 14, 17 which are maintained in close proximity by C-or U-shaped members 18. The tobacco is deflected from the band 17 by a rotating worm or spiral brush 19 and (a) is guided by plates 20, 22 on to the element 7 behind a tobacco roll, formed as described in Specification 385,210, between the roller 7 and a brushing roller 8, or (b) is deposited, on a distributing roller or in a shoot. The portions 14A, 17A of the bands 14, 17 may form obtuse or acute angles respectively with the bases of the L-shape bands or may be of zigzag form by being passed over guide rollers of convex shape. Brushes 23, 24 remove portions of tobacco clinging to the bands 17, 14.
