Cigarette-making machines.-In a continuousrod machine in which a number of parallel cigarette-rods are formed, the paper roll a, Fig. 2, a guide roller b, the gold-printing apparatus c, and the tipping-mechanism d for each rod are mounted, one beneath the other, on the side of the tobacco hopper g, and are driven, independently of similar apparatus for the other rods, from the main shaft f by any suitable mechanism such as double cranks, racks, or chains. The gumming apparatus k, the cutter-actuating mechanism l, and the conveyer-belt driving pulley for each rod are mounted in line and are also driven from the main shaft f through a single shaft parallel with the rod. As shown in Fig. 7, this shaft s is driven by pinions e, n, q, a crossshaft' p<1>, and bevel pinions v. The cross-shaft p<1> is provided with a crank p of adjustable throw connected by rods o to the slide r of the cutters u. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the following subject-matter. The transverse movement of the cutters is effected by a cam w which, together with the cutter-driving pulley t, is slidably mounted on the shaft s. The cam w engages one arm of a bell-crank lever x the other arm of which carries the cutters u. The angle between the arms is adjustable. The rod-compressing mechanism i, Fig. 2, comprises four pairs of shaped, vertically-mounted rollers 4, Fig. 9, [Cancelled], and the same number of similarly-shaped horizontal rollers 2, 3. The rollers are mounted in frames such as i<L> and are arranged in pairs of decreasing diameter in the direction of feed. The distance between them is adjustable by means of devices 5, 6. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
