[Class 39 (i)] A grid electrode arranged in the electron stream from the cathode 2, Fig. 5, to the cylindrical anode 3 is constituted by conductive elements 1 which lie on a cylindrical surface between the cathode 2 and anode 3 and which are concave in cross-section towards the cathode to reduce secondary emission from the grid. The elements 1 may be straight strips parallel to the cathode and of the crosssection shown in Fig. 4, or a concave strip may be wound helically.
