445,875. Methods of generating steam. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Oct. 18, 1934, No. 29867. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1933. [Class 123 (ii)] Steam generators having both evaporating and superheating surfaces in the combustion chamber, and particularly those in which high gas velocities are employed, have evaporating elements with one or more gas tubes running through them and disposed in front of the combustion chamber wall, and the heating gases passing through each element, heat steam in a superheating element associated with it. The gas tubes may comprise portions 1, 2, steam being generated in space 6 and superheated in space 9 of each evaporating element. Or the superheating elements may comprise U-tubes within a pipe built in the evaporating space above or at the side of the heating tubes which communicate with it. A further modification comprises adjacent evaporating and superheating members 41, 42, protecting the combustion chamber wall, the gas tubes 40 communicating with a tube 43 surrounding the superheater elements and itself enclosed by a wall 44.
