Abstract

343,594. Water-tube steam boilers. BAUMANN, K., Northwoodhouse, Barnfield, Urmston, Lancashire. Aug. 21, 1929, Nos. 37091/30, 37092/30, 37093/30, 37094/30, and 37095/30. Divided on 340,295. [Class 123 (ii).] A water-tube boiler has two or more superheaters 3, 5, alternating in the steam circuit with heating elements 8 in the water space of one or more separate evaporators 4, 6, and optionally in the boiler drum or drums 2 and the steam from the evaporators is passed in a separate circuit through one or more superheaters 7 9, and optionally through heating elements 10 in the evaporators and drums. Steam circuits operated at different pressures may supply high and low pressure stages 11a, 11b of a mixed pressure turbine or the like. Boiler constructions consisting of water-tube furnace walls part of which are arranged to shield an upper superheater chamber from furnace radiation may be employed and the superheaters may be located so that the first is exposed to the cooler gases and its steam flow is counter to the gas flow whilst a second superheater is exposed to hotter gases and its steam flow is in the same direction as the gas flow. A superheater chamber may be provided on both sides of the space above the furnace or may consist of an upper bottleshaped extension of the furnace space.
