Abstract

Pigments are made by coupling diazotized 3-nitro-4-toluidine with acetoacetanilide in presence of a calcium or other alkaline earth metal rosinate, in such amount that the resulting product contains from 20--35 per cent of the rosinate. They have great transparency and brilliant printing tone. In an example, the diazo compound is added to a suspension of acetoacetanilide and barium or calcium rosinate. The barium rosinate suspension is made by boiling rosin with caustic soda and adding the sodium rosinate solution to boiling aqueous barium chloride solution. Specifications 334,874, [Class 2 (iii)], and 369,956 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the rosinate may be added to the diazo solution instead of to the coupling component. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
