Abstract

4-Hydroxypyrene is obtained by diazotizing 3 - aminopyrene - 4 - sulphonic acid (prepared according to Specifications 434,128 and 434,160), removing the diazo group, and melting the sulphonic acid obtained with caustic alkali. In an example sodium 3 - aminopyrene - 4- sulphonate is diazotized, boiled with alcohol, and the product fused with caustic potash.
