Convention date, July 13, 1934. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] A wall comprises metal posts having longitudinal grooves in which engage the flanges of sheet-metal slabs which connect the posts. The posts may consist of channel irons 1, 2 placed back to back and spaced by blocks 3 to leave the longitudinal grooves which receive the flanges 14 of the connecting slabs. Packing may be inserted in the grooves between the flanges. The slabs may be slightly dished and may be disposed on one side only, or on both sides of the posts to constitute a hollow wall. The sheets forming the slabs may be flanged on all sides and may be provided with facings or fittings for heat-insulation or ornamentation. The posts may be braced by tubular distancepieces 19 on bolts 18. The channel members constituting the posts may be secured directly together, the outer parts 11, 12, Fig. 4, of the sections being offset to provide the longitudinal grooves. When the slabs are flanged on all sides the upper and lower flanges may engage in grooves between longitudinal sheets 29, 28 ; 26, 27, Fig. 3. The posts may be built of flanged U-shaped sections 36, Fig. 7, braced at intervals by similarly shaped straps 37 and coupled by bars 39. The posts may also be built of members 42, 44, as shown in Fig. 8. In a further modification, two plates, flanged as necessary to provide longitudinal grooves, are clamped around a central solid or hollow post of rectangular or other section. In another construction of post, an I-beam 57, Fig. 10, may have flanged grooved sections 49 secured to its flanges. Capping strips 60, Fig. 11, may be bolted to the posts to overlap and secure the slabs 4. The capping strip may be formed as at 70 in Fig. 12, to secure packings of rubber &c. 74, a filling 68 of waterproof material being inserted after the bolts have been tightened.
