Abstract
445,242. Producing designs on aluminium. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.- GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Sept. 19, 1935, No. 25988. Convention date, Nov. 23, 1934. [Class 100 (ii)] An aluminium oxide layer is produced on aluminium or an alloy thereof by treatment with oxalic acid, sulphuric acid, chromic acid, or other substances, or layers of other oxygen compounds, e.g. of phosphate, may be formed, direct or alternating current being used in the production of the layers if desired, designs are printed on the surface, the unprinted portion is dyed with a dyestuff which is not soluble in the solvent of the printing-medium, and the printed design is removed. The dye may be applied by dipping the article in an aqueous dye solution or in two separate solutions of dyes which react to form a coloured compound. Mechanical action such as swabbing may be employed to remove ink not dissolved by the solvent. To produce a two-colour design, the oxidized and printed article is placed on a plate heated to 60-70‹ C., dye is applied to parts of the unprinted surface by a brush or a die, and the remaining parts are dyed in a contrasting colour. Specification 439,403 is referred to.
