July 17, 1935, No. 20416. Convention date, Feb. 14. [Class 37] In a dry surface rectifier an asymmetric unit consisting of a metal body with a coating of a compound of the metal formed on it has an electrode applied to the compound, of a material non-fusible, non - ductile and non- oxidizable at the temperatures to which the rectifier is submitted, such as carbon. In an example, a copper plate 1 has a layer of cuprous oxide 2 formed on it and a carbon plate B is pressed into intimate contact with the surface of the cuprous oxide, preferably with the interposition of a layer of finely divided carbon. A number of these units are assembled on an insulating sleeve 3 on a screw bolt D, pressure being applied through spring washers 4E, 4F.
