Abstract
444,170. Sifting-apparatus. ARNOLD, C., 11, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London.-(Tyler Co., W. S.; 3615, Superior Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A.) June 13, 1934, No. 17522. [Class 117] In sieves of the kind comprising a freely floating resiliently supported sifting surface 4, Fig. 3, which is directly vibrated by electromagnetic or other devices 5, the supporting and tensioning means consist of studs 8 attached to the opposite edges of the sifting surface and passing through openings in the side frame members 3 large enough to permit bodily movement of the surface. The outer ends of the studs are secured by nuts 11 bearing against the ends of helical springs 13. In a modification, the springs may be omitted and the studs themselves made resilient. Fig. 5 shows a further modification in which the freely mounted sifting surface 23 has secured to by resilient or other strips 25 a second sifting surface 24 which is clamped at its edges to tensioning devices consisting of plates 26 fulcrummed on the side frames at their upper edges 28 and secured by draw bolts 29.
