475,428. Sifting apparatus. HEAD, WRIGHTSON, & CO., Ltd., WRIGHTSON, W. I., and WASS, A. J. May 26, 1936, No. 14893. [Class 117] A machine for screening or classifying solid materials of a friable or abrasive nature has one or more sheets of perforated resilient material such as rubber with clamping or like means for tensioning the sheet or sheets. In the form shown, the rubber sheets 7 are arranged in step formation with the apertures 8 at the edge of the steps and the sheets are secured to the sides of the frame (not shown) by members 9, intermediate supporting members 10 also being provided. In a modification flat sheets supported between a pair of angle members are used, the angle members being secured to the frame sides by bolts which may be adjusted to vary the tension. Reciprocatory motion may be imparted to the frame, and the sheets may be corrugated.
