Abstract

242,189. Woosnam, A., (Roberts & Schaefer Co.). May 26, 1925. Separating by shaking apparatus.-Relates to a process and apparatus for separating dry granular materials of the kind in which the materials are caused to travel over a reciprocating perforated table and are at the same time subjected to the action of an air current passing upward and through the table, and consists in providing on the table a plurality of zones extending transversely of the direction of reciprocation, the strength of the air current in each zone being uniform and different from that in the other zones. In the construction described, the, perforated table A<3>, Fig. 4, consists of a sheet C of perforated zinc covered by screen fabric C<1>, an additional strip C<2> of cheese cloth being interposed between the zinc and screen fabric so as to obstruct the passage of air in a zone conterminous with the ends of the riffles C<3>, which are of decreasing depth from the feed to the discharge side of the table. The table is supported on beams C<4>, Fig. 6, arranged under the riffles and carrying flexible metal strips C' which can be distorted as required to control the supply of air to the different parts of the table. The frame B, Fig. 3, carrying the table is hinged at one longitudinal edge to the reciprocating frame A<2>, and is adjustably secured at the other edge by the slotted bars B<1>, B<2>, B<4>, B<5>, so as to vary the transverse inclination of the table. The frame A<2> is supported from the main frame by links A<6>, A<7> and adjustable supports A<8> so as to vary the longitudinal inclination, and is driven by an eccentric rod A<12>. The air is supplied to the under-side of the table by a tapering chimney E which is connected at its upper edge to the table by an air-tight flexible bellows E<2>.
